## Fuel Types
In general, fire pits come in two main categories: gas and wood-burning.
A wood-burning fire pit is a great choice if you don’t mind a little smoke in the air. As the name suggests, this type of fire pit is fueled by wooden logs or pellets and has more of a rustic, old-school appeal. Wood-burning fire pits generally burn hotter than gas-fueled units and may produce bigger flames depending on how much wood is used.
Gas fire pits provide the look and feel of a roaring fire without the mess and labor. Using natural gas or propane for fuel, gas fire pits can be adjusted to meet your preferences. The flame height can be controlled using a valve, so you always get the exact fire you want. Since gas fire pits don’t burn as hot as wood-fueled units, you can safely add a gas fire pit to your patio area without worrying about burn damage.
