The terms hot tub and jacuzzi are often used interchangeably however, there are a few key differences between them. 

## **Hot Tub**

A hot tub is defined as a large tub of hot water that usually has a whirlpool device where people relax and socialize. This term emerged when hot tubs gained popularity in the 1970s. These self-contained vessels are often portable and above ground. You can fill your hot tub with water from a garden hose and drain it at any time. 

## **Jacuzzi**

Just like when you use the term “Xerox” and you’re talking about a photocopier, or “Kleenex” when you are referring to a tissue, the term “Jacuzzi” is a brand name that is often incorrectly used as a general term. Jacuzzi is a popular trademarked brand that makes hot tubs, bath products, and pool equipment. In 1968, the Jacuzzi brothers created an aerated pump that turned a regular bathtub into a jetted tub. They patented this whirlpool jetted tub and created the first branded hot tub.
