# How to Measure for Bar Stools

## Finding The Correct Height
#### 1. Take Measurements
The first step to finding the correct height is taking measurements. Measure from the floor to the underside of your counter or table. Make sure to double-check your measurements because they will determine the correct height for your bar stool. Subtract this measurement by ten inches to find the perfect bar stool height.
From there, your search will probably fall into one of two categories for bar stool height — counter height (23 to 28 inches) and bar height (29 to 32 inches).
#### 2. How many bar stools do you need?
Figuring out how many bar stools you need may sound like a tricky task, but it’s simple. Measure 26-30 inches between where the centers of each bar stool are, or where they would be. Then, measure 14 inches from the center of the last bar stool to the edge of the counter. This allows enough space for people to move around with ease and comfortably eat, drink, and hang out.
#### 3. Width of the Bar Stool Seat
When measuring the width of the bar stool seat, bigger is not always better. You want to ensure that your guests will be comfortable and have enough space. Allowing around six inches between stools is ideal. If a larger seat is more comfortable for you and your family, then you will likely have to decrease the number of stools you can fit under your counter or table.
